The Faith and Policy Unit
arranges a Prayer Day in the Spring with a service of Worship, a speaker,
and discussion. Then in the Autumn there is a 3-Day Retreat led by a
retreatant usually from the Diocese.
The unit aims to produce and make available prayers and material for
services throughout the year.
Material for Branch Worship is put together and distributed to each
Branch in the Deanery in November at the Archdeaconry Council
Meetings.
In 2005 this will focus on our own Diocesan projects (see
Action & Outreach)
and adding The Literacy and Development Programme and Campaigns such as the
Jubilee Debt and Grow up free from Povety Coalition.
Cathedral Prayers
Cathedral Prayers are held in the Lady Chapel in Wells Cathedral
usually on the 3rd Thursday 11.30am-12 midday. See the
Events page for dates.
Wave of Prayer
Throughout the year we pray in turn for members in Dioceses around the
world and this is known as 'The Wave of Prayer'.
Our own 'Wave of Prayer' falls on 1st-5th February each year and this
is when we concentrate our prayers on our links in Africa.
Indoor Members
Indoor Members are kept in touch through the Liaison Officer with
letters from the President, Chaplain and members of the unit. They are
visited by members of their branch or Deanery IM Rep. As they are not
as active physically their prayers are a vital part of Mothers Union
in the Diocese and worldwide.
Resources
The Liaison Officers and Co-ordinator give talks to branches on aspects
of the work of the unit and some are willing to lead Quiet Days which
are usually held once a year in each Deanery.
Several books on prayer have been produced by the Central Faith and Policy Committee
and all these are available through our Diocesan Marketing Unit.
