overseas
This is the unit that puts our aim and objects into a practical and tangible form.
We achieve this by:
World Wide Links
We have more than 55 links with MU groups worldwide including 21 with Zambia, and others including Mozambique, Uganda, and Australia.
Parenting
Many parenting courses are held in the diocese and, so far, over 100 parents have attended courses. We have 6 accredited course leaders.
Child Contact Centres
These are meeting places for estranged parents to meet their children under supervision and we now have two running in our diocese; one in Frome, and one in Nailsea/Clevedon.
Baby Gowns
Packs containing gowns, bonnets, hats, and bootees are supplied to hospitals in Bath, Yeovil, and Taunton, to be used on the premature baby wards, and for the still-born.
Womens Aid
Supporting Womens Refuges is an all year round commitment involving sending foodstuffs, cleaning goods, and little luxuries and gifts.
Away From It All
Away From It All is a holiday scheme funded by the MU which helps people and families under stress.
Last year 8 families, 3 single adults and 23 children enjoyed special times together. For example, a mother and daughter visited the girl's paternal grandparents that the 16 year old had never met. A couple and their 4 children had a seaside holiday although the father is suffering from terminal cancer. A divorced mum with 3 children was helped to go on a parish holiday at Lee Abbey.
Media
We monitor the media and have adopted a Christian Broadcaster, Dudley Anderson, who is part of Christian Voice International broadcasting to Lusaka, Zambia, Malawi, and Kenya.
Story Sacks
Story Sacks are given to schools to help tell Christian stories to the children. A sack contains books, toys and games. Many sacks are in production and 40 sacks have been handed over in the Taunton.
Student Cookbooks
About 150 cookbooks containing simple recipes and useful household information were sold cheaply to Freshers at Bath University.
